Reggie is one of those writers that you know is going to be a fabulous read. This book is no exception. In fact it may just become not only a primer for the next two decades but the primary text book.
Reggie divides the world into those who "get it" and those who "don't. The "it" is the difference between Constantian and biblical Christianity (not his words but mine). The missional church simply doesn't have to depend on an institutional setting. It is whereever God's people are. People don't have to "go" church; they "are" the church and need to "be" the church wherever they are. The book is in the same vein as the incarntional and emergent movements. The key question I raise is "Can Christianity survive without an institution in a society based on institutions?"
What I liked about the book is his clarilty about the "sentness" of God's people and that our primary mission in life is to bless other people. Based on these two biblical ingredients he provides us with a new scoreboard for measuring the vitality of the church in the new world. This is a must read for anyone wanting to track the movement of Christianity as it marches toward a new world.
