Today's New York Times featured the bestseller, The Shack, by William Young, with its article, Christian Novel Is Surprise Best Seller. The Shack is in its fourth week on the NYT bestseller list (paperback trade fiction.) The article rightly notes that "Sales have been fueled partly by a whiff of controversy." When a book gets featured in the New York Times, it's getting tons of exposure and that much more attention. (cf. read an excerpt of The Shack)
I had reviewed The Shack last week here at the Books @ Leadership Network blog, The Shack touted as Pilgrim's Progress.
On another note, learned of this new book about reaching internationals from my colleague Warren Bird, with an intriguing title that comes right from the Gospels -- Who is My Neighbor? By Phillip and Kandace Connor.
Via immigration, North America is changing rapidly. The United States is now 13 percent foreign born, Canada at 20 percent. There is no question that God is doing something amazing in our time. As missionaries engage unreached people groups overseas, God is simultaneously bringing unreached peoples of the earth to our continent, often to our own backyards.

Who is My Neighbor? is a biblically-principled guidebook that assists the reader to move beyond their own ethnic group and cross culturally engage people groups from all over the world living in North America. Using examples from the Connors' own experience, your heart will be encouraged, your mind will be challenged, and your hands will be readied for this God-given opportunity to reach the nations within our nation.
"Who is My Neighbor? will not only challenge you to look beyond your own setting and give you a greater passion for internationals, but more importantly will provide you with the practical tools to go from an interest in internationals to establishing a multiplying church network. It is rare to find a book on missions so well designed and focused yet also a delight to read. Kandace and Phillip, may your tribe increase and may this book begin that process!" -- ED STETZER, Director of LifeWay Research and Resident Missiologist
PHILLIP AND KANDACE CONNOR are both graduates of Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. Together, they have experience working with North Africans, South Asians, Chinese, Vietnamese, Latinos, French speaking peoples, and many other people groups. Phillip, the designer of the peoplegroups.info project, is currently finishing a Ph.D. in sociology at Princeton University. Kandace, having worked in mission fields in North America and Asia, coordinates the Connor's local ministry among internationals.
Who is My Neighbor? retails at $10 and is only available at www.reachinternationals.com .
