Rex Miller (author of The Millennium Matrix: Reclaiming the Past, Reframing the Future of the Church) is organizing The Return of the Tentmaker conference in Irving, Texas, on May 4th, 2007. Rex shares with us the back story and extends an invitation to you!
Why the Return of the Tentmaker?
Whether you are a professional, have a sales career, a schoolteacher, own a company... or have a job outside the "church" or 'ministry", we are all called to the marketplace. We are all Tentmakers. God wants to use you and your gift in the marketplace!
There is an historic change creating new opportunities for Tentmakers. Information is cheap, accessible, connected and mobile.
Guttenberg birthed the last era of open information launching a tremendously diverse Kingdom mobilization. Today it’s Smart Phones, iPods, Google, Amazon, YouTube and a host of others.
The platform exists for a similar mobilization on a grander global scale. This is a platform tailored for individual mobilization - AND - individuals adapt much faster than organizations, institutions or traditions. In many ways Tentmakers will lead the charge and churches who see the shift will provide support.
I’ve heard dozens of faithful church goers share their ministry passion over the last five years and asked why their ambitions remain unfulfilled. Here are the common responses:
- I’m not sure how to start.
- I don’t feel I’m qualified.
- My church isn’t interested in that ministry.
- I can’t do this on my own.
- I’ve been burned in the past and not sure if I’m ready to jump in.
If these or other reasons challenge you – then come to The Return of the Tentmaker. There are radically new rules and opportunities for ministry. Our objective is to share this new platform, new rules and practical approaches through living examples.
The Return of the Tentmaker is a grassroots event. There is no event management group, no fee, no book or tapes to sell. Coming to The Return of the Tentmaker will be like showing up at your local basketball court and being invited to play a pick-up game with several NBA Allstars. You’ll learn and see things about the “game” of today’s Tentmaking world that you will never see at a seminar.
You will not only clarify your own niche as a Tentmaker but you’ll be able to take The Return of the Tentmaker back to your own church home, community or circle of friends.
